Step #14 - Drive Traffic to Your Site

There are basically 3 types of traffic:

• Organic
• Paid
• Viral (hybrid of organic and paid)

Our primary strategy for driving traffic to a website focuses on organic traffic using a Blog.

The reason for using a Blog is it is easier to get a Blog to rank well in the search engines than a website.  The Blog is then used to drive traffic to your website(s).  Additionally it helps your website(s) rank well in the search engines.

There are several factors which determine how well a website will rank in the search engines (SEO checklist) with backlinks being the most critical.  Here’s a list of ways to get backlinks:

• Write Impactful Articles
• Write, Submit and Post Press Releases
• Submit your URL to Directories
• Link Exchange with Relevant Sites
• Link Exchange with any site
• Post on Forums w/ sig (signature) block
• Create Your Own Blog
• Post Comments on Others Blogs
• eBay
• Sell Book on Amazon
• Sell Product on Froogle
• Write "How To" report for eHow

We have found it is most effective to direct backlinks to a Blog in order to get it to rank well in the search engines.  The Blog is then used to drive traffic to your website(s) by making interesting posts with links to your website(s).  These backlinks not only direct traffic to your website(s) but they help your website(s) rank well in the search engines.

The other benefit to taking this approach is  you can use a Blog to direct traffic to multiple websites helping each of them to rank well in the search engines.

The long term strategy is to build many websites and Blogs on different but closely related topics can be used to promote each other. By taking this approach, you are leveraging all of your sites (websites and Blogs) and should get more traffic to each site as well as improve the ranking of each site.

Paid advertising is another effective form of driving traffic. There are several forms of paid advertising.  The following is a list of the paid forms of traffic:

8)  Continue acquiring backlinks to your website
